PEFONDES finish the final assessment of the Social Initiative supported by BENISI project

Final assessment has been developed to close the BENISI project, which will have its final event in Brussels in March. The BENISI project has sought to build a Europe-wide network of networks of incubators for social innovation. This network will proactively identify at least 300 social innovations that are identified with high potential for scaling successfully, and ensure the delivery of necessary support services to those social innovations. Networks are already structured in a collaborative mode; they are more able to spread knowledge and practice horizontally and they are the perfect ally when trying to develop a Europe-wide programme that needs to balance local action with continent-wide strategy and vision.

Training sessions for welcome alliances

How can we welcome the refugees in Germany? How does good integration succeed? Why this year more refugees than ever are seeking protection in Germany? These questions concerned a lot of people in recent months. The project "Welcome to Football" shows that sport can be a way to integration and how concrete help can be designed. Initiated by the Bundesliga Foundation and supported by the Federal Government Commissioner for Migration, Refugees and Integration, Minister of State Aydan Özoğuz, the project is realised all over Germany In the field, the German Children and Youth Foundation (DKJS) is facilitating welcome alliances with professional football clubs. The clubs offer easy access to sport and training to young refugees and so enable them to entry into the world of organised football – a centrepiece of Germany. "It’s good to see that young, prominent football players show their commitment for refugees. They are great role models for children and youth, "said the Minister of State. "We feel a great need of clubs to stand up for refugees", reports Stefan Kiefer, Chairman of the Bundesliga Foundation. "They organised, for example, fundraising or open training programs. This social commitment of professional football is exemplary. We want to develop it and pool our resources "-" Welcome to Football "is a good example. Direct link: (...)
